When Hope Has Died

By Bethany Pyle

Hope has died, but I survived,
Living like a ghost.
Hope has died, but I survived
And through my life I coast.

Hope has died, but I survived
I live a life that’s numb.
Hope has died, but I survived.
Of light, there is no crumb.

Hope has died, but I survived
Although I don’t know why
Hope has died, but I survived
Even though I wanna die.

Hope has died, but I survived.
I stand here in the dark.
Hope has died, but I survived
Despair has left its mark.

Hope has died, but I survived.
I don’t know what to do.
Hope has died, but I survived,
The answer though, I have no clue

Hope has died, but I survived.
My dreams have turned to mist.
Hope has died, but I survived.
This knowledge hits like a fist.

Hope has died, but I survived.
I don’t hold on for better days.
Hope has died, but I survived.
I know this isn’t simply a phase.

Hope has died, but I survived.
But I do not stay for me.
Hope has died, but I survived.
Of my life, I’ll never be free.

Hope has died, but I survived.
There isn’t hope in going to die.
Hope has died, but I survived.
So my own death, I don’t even try.

Hope has died, but I survived.
My life is purgatory.
Hope has died, but I survived.
My stay is mandatory.

Hope has died, but I survived.
Without hope, my life is mandatory
Hope has died, but I survived.
Without hope, death is predatory.

Hope has died, but I survived
With not a chance to thrive.
Hope has died, but I survived
But hey, at least I am alive!
